Ravenna

The original capital of the Byzantine Empire, Ravenna is filled with the most remarkable mosaics. Everywhere you turn, you discover large churches with floors and ceilings awash with vibrant, detailed mosaics.

With few tourists, this was one of the best tourist towns we encountered. All the landmarks were accessable through the purchase of a single ticket. With the exception of Rome, few towns came close the Ravenna in the beauty of its clerical architecture.
